Key Features

  • Durable Folding Steel Frame: Built from high-quality steel, the frame provides strength and stability while remaining lightweight enough for easy folding and portability. Its hinge mechanism allows the bike to collapse into a compact form, perfect for tight spaces like small apartments, offices, or public transit lockers.
  • 20-Inch Alloy Wheels with Street Tires: The 20-inch alloy wheels are designed for smooth, efficient rolling on paved surfaces. Equipped with street-optimized tires, they offer reliable traction and comfort on city sidewalks, bike lanes, and suburban roads—ideal for regular commutes and casual weekend outings.
  • Integrated Rear Carry Rack: A built-in rear rack adds significant utility, allowing riders to attach panniers, bags, or light cargo such as groceries, work essentials, or personal items. This feature transforms the Hinge into a true multi-purpose commuter bike, supporting everyday needs beyond just transportation.
  • Convenient Carrying Bag Included: The bike comes with a durable carrying bag that makes transporting or storing the folded bike simple and secure. Whether you’re riding public transit, walking across campus, or tucking the bike away in a closet, the bag protects the frame and keeps everything organized.

Benefits & Use Cases

The Schwinn Hinge excels in real-world urban environments where space efficiency and reliability are paramount. Its foldable design makes it an excellent choice for apartment living, where floor space is limited and bikes need to be stored vertically or tucked neatly away. Riders can easily fold the bike in seconds—often in under a minute—and store it under a desk, behind a door, or in a shared bike area without hassle. The compact footprint also makes it suitable for taking on buses, trains, or car trunks, expanding your mobility options beyond traditional cycling routes.

For commuters, the rear carry rack transforms the Hinge into a practical daily tool. Whether you’re heading to the office with a laptop bag or picking up supplies from the market, the rack supports light loads safely and securely. Combined with the included carrying bag, this bike becomes more than just transportation—it’s a complete solution for active, space-conscious lifestyles.

The 20-inch wheel size strikes a balance between agility and stability, making the bike nimble in traffic yet stable enough for confident handling on varied terrain. The street tires provide consistent grip on asphalt and smooth pavement, reducing vibrations and improving ride comfort over longer distances. While not intended for off-road trails or heavy-duty mountain biking, the Hinge performs reliably on the kinds of surfaces most urban cyclists encounter.

This bike is particularly well-suited for riders seeking a no-fuss, dependable option for short to medium-distance travel. It’s not designed for high-speed racing or extreme conditions, but rather for everyday use where convenience, storage, and basic performance matter most.

Important Notes

The Schwinn Hinge includes the rear carry rack and carrying bag as standard accessories—no additional purchases are required to enjoy these features. The folding mechanism is engineered for repeated use, but users should ensure the bike is fully unfolded and locked into place before riding to maintain safety and structural integrity. When using the carrying bag, avoid overloading or placing heavy items directly on the frame to prevent damage.

No assembly kit or tools are mentioned in the source material, so it’s assumed the bike arrives ready to ride or requires minimal setup. However, periodic maintenance—such as checking tire pressure, inspecting brakes, and ensuring all bolts are secure—is recommended for optimal performance and longevity. Always follow local traffic laws and regulations regarding bicycle use, especially when using the carry rack on public transit or in shared pathways.

As an adult folding bike, the Hinge is intended for riders who meet standard sizing requirements. Users should confirm frame compatibility with their height and inseam measurements to ensure a comfortable fit. Protective gear, including a helmet, is strongly advised during operation.

Great Bikes, will be nice for day trips
Great bikes, I purchased two for riding with my girlfriend in Colorado. You just have to be a little handy when assembling. The fender brackets were a little tweaked from transport, so I bent them back in position using some tools any handyman would have. Other than that, they are well made and I’m glad I purchased them. Like that they can easily fold and transport in a compact car with gasoline prices as high as they are. Good luck, I would say give it shot, it beats buying a$500.00 bike at local bike shops.

    Versatile, Light, Fun
I haven’t bought a petal bike in a long time. I am originally from NY but moved to cocoa beach FL and the big thing here is to ride a bike. I live in an apartment with not a ton of room, and the rain here has salt water in it so it can ruin your bike quickly. I also drive a small sedan, so the whole folding mechanic is super nice to have. It’s a great bike to ride through town but long distance and hills definitely not. I like the little rack thing in the back because i can put a tall boy white claw or my mini speaker in it. The style is retro and cool. Awesome bike!

    Not made in the US
This bicycle just works. They call it the “Hinge” because get this… it uses actual door hinges as the folding mechanism. lol4 stars simply due to it being made in China. If I was saving $1500 dollars theoretically as a person in my 40’s from not paying car insurance every year, I should make enough to support American manufacturing but this bike just annoyed me by not reading that fine print before purchasing from an American company. Make sure to clean and lubricate that bicycle chain every week. The hinges may not be properly welded but some white lithium grease spray will get some of the less crude bikes to open and close properly whenever they present resistance.

$225 bike arrived with $70 worth of damage
Well, just like other uses, this bike arrived heavily damage and not fully as described. First, the bike is missing one of the two folding pedals, literally the one thing that made me decided to purchase this bike over others. Second, the rear brakes were completely shot, both arm springs are set so that they won’t spring back when the brake is depressed, so the pads pretty much just ride the rim the whole time, this had to be replaced at the tune of $20. Then, the major kicker, came with a severely bent chain sprocket, this cost $50 at a local bike shop to fix, as you need a special tool to replace it. The only reason the bike is getting 3 stars is that the folding aspect does exactly what I need it to do and now that the bike is fixed, it is at least somewhat palpable for riding.Update: This bike has been a disaster. Along with everything above, I have been riding this bike maybe 10 minutes a day too and from my work building and parking lot. Everything has started to break. Front fender gets bent anytime you fold the bike, so now it rides the front tire. Same thing with the chain guard. Rear brakes have only gotten worse and are nearly impossible to get a correct adjustment on due to the poor design of the cable routing. Front reflector just spins and can’t be tightened and there isn’t even any good place to attach lighting to the bike to make it legal for night riding. What a complete waste of money. Might need to file a BBB on this!

This bike will fit (very nicely) in a Milliard zipper case found here on Amazon
After months of looking I found a fabric zipper case that fits the Schwinn Hinge:”Milliard Carry Case 4″ Tri-Fold Mattress (Does Not Fit 6 inch) (cot)”aka “COMIN18JU070802″Other folks have reviewed the bike itself but no one could tell me where to find a good case for it!The silly bag that comes with this bike zips very oddly. I agree with other reviewers that it’s almost impossible to get your bike into the Schwinn bag.The Milliard case zips all the way along 3 whole sides, it’s a breeze to lay your folded Hinge gently down on one half of the opened case, then just zip it and tilt bike back up into standing position.Has three handles, on the top and ends. Personally, I lift by the two end handles, to spread the weight evenly. After all this thing is not designed to carry 32 pounds of metal. But it seems well constructed and will serve well for car trips. If you save the box your Hinge ships in, that’s a good solution too, but the box takes up way more space than a bag.People have wondered what dimensions the bike folds down into. That’s a tough question because of the way the handlebars flop over against the side of the bike. I hope my photo helps, I chose an angle where you can see it sort of resembles a giant wedge of cheese. Narrower at the hinge end, wider at the wheels end. 24” stool and ladies’ shoes for scale.

Good, but check brakes and oil first.
Pro: Sturdy frame.Cons:Folding hinge very tight. Spray it down with WD40 or it can refuse to fold at all.Brakes came tightened too tightly, and had to loosen them as they were gripping the tire at all times. Most uncomfortable seat. Highly suggest replacing the seat.Personal annoyance: I bought the bike under the assumption it was a beach cruiser style as I saw it was a 1-speed. I don’t blame the dealer, however, as I should have looked closer. Hoping to eventually replace the tires with backpedal brakes. Otherwise, the bike is very sturdy and reliable. I’ve deducted it to 3 Stars because the brakes aren’t calibrated properly prior to shipping, and replacing the seat seems like a must. After that, however, great bike.

Nice bike but the breaks needed to be readjusted with a hex wrench
I am satisfied but I had to remove and readjust the front break. I was able to fix it and enjoy riding it and didn’t see any other problems. It folds easily after I figured it out.

No es tan fácil de plegar, ni de transportar con una mano, está pesadita, eso sí está bien resistente y armada es una chulada

Part of the Crankset teeth was dented on arrival, could be due to material handling during logistics. Easily fixed by bending with a plier. The steel material is selling point for comfortable and stable ride. The rear rack come handy for carrying bag.

Think before you buy. Great bike but consider storage, do you really need a bike, are you really going to make use of it. I didn’t and ended up giving it away. But if you fit all the former then this is a great folding bike.
